This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading, writing, handwriting and art. For maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:

Title: Honey bee report |
Intro / Opening Statement In this report I am going to tell you about bees. For example their appearance, their diet and their threats are.
|
Appearance Like most other insects they have an exoskeleton, two compound eyes,6 jointed legs, 2 antennae,a thorax, an abdomen and a head. They also have a stinger at the end of the abdomen, wings on the back of the thorax and a special straw like tongue.Bees have different colors but the honey bees have a black and yellow stripes on them.Z |
Diet Bee’s diet consists of pollen, nectar and honey. While bees are still larvae the worker bees feed them a type of jelly called royal jelly for the first three days from when they are hatched another type of bee who eats royal jelly is the bee queen. |
Habitat They live in a thing called a hive. The hive was built by worker bees by chewing wax until it becomes soft, then cominding large amounts of wax until they become hexagon shaped cells of honeycomb. They use the hexagons to hold things like eggs, larvae and honey.
|
Threats Bees have many threats such as wasps and this disease called american foulbrood. They also have threats like climate change and pesticides.

Reproduction
The queen lays her eggs using an organised pattern, placing each egg next to others within a cell of honeycomb. The queen lays the eggs in the middle of the cell so workers can put food on the edges. |
